We have a network of about 20 PCs with assigned ip
addresses and a set gateway address to access the
internet and remote email server. On Friday my PC lost
its ability to connect to the internet and the email
server. I checked the network properties and nothing had
changed. I tried pinging the email server and received a
message saying the address was not found. I ran ipconfig
in a DOS window and it reported a different ip address
for the gateway than what was set through the network
properties. The address it reported as the gateway
address is the ip address for another PC on our network.
I ran winipcfg and it report the same problem. I have
tried deleting the gateway address and re-installing it,
removing the TCP/IP settings and re-installing them and
finally removing the network card settings and re-
installing them. It always comes up with the same wrong
gateway address. Is there anything short of re-installing
Win98se I can do to fix this?
Thanks, Ron
