Writing to a CD writer

I know I can do this with XP/2000 machines but have so far
been unable to do this with 98:

I have two machines networked, one with Win 98SE and one
with Win 98. There is a CD writer on the machine with 98,
and I want to copy files on the machine with 98SE on it.

I have mapped the writer as a network drive but all I can
do is read from it - I can't write to it!!

Can anybody help me???
