Writable briefcase

When trying to transfer info between THE BRIEFCASE in my
desktop (WIN98) and BRIEFCASE in my laptop (WINME) WITH A
DIRECT CABLE CONNECTION by laplink cable my briefcase in
the laptop got a message saying: This file cannot be
copiedbecause it is only readable.Make your briefcase
writable and click 'update all'.

I trid to change the attribute of my briefcase in my
laptop (WINME), but the attribute always goes back to read
only.

What should I do that I have not done yet?
