WPC11 and D-Link DI-624 configuration

To all:

I was wondering if you might be able to help me with connecting a
Toshiba laptop with a Linksys WPC11 card to a D-Link DI-624 Access
Point. The WPC11 seems to work okay with access points I find at
random access points in NYC (Starbucks/T-mobile, NYC Wireless, others)
but I can't even get the WPC11 card to SEE the DI-624. It's not as if
the DI-624 has a weak signal when I try to connect from the
Toshiba...there is no signal at all!

The DI-624 can be set to run only 802.11g, but according to the router
admin setup, is set to run 802.11b as well--at least in theory.

We have tried contacting both Linksys and D-Link support but to no
avail. Linksys support suggested changing the channel on the DI-624,
but we were not able to even change the channel.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I go out and get a
802.11b/802.11g card (and for that matter, a D-Link card)? Any help
would be appreciated...Thanks,

If you have the latest firmware on the DI-624 and you cannot change your
wireless channel it is because you have Turbo Mode switched on, disabling
turbo mode or going to g mode (54mbps) will enable you to select a different
wireless channels.

Yea, I was also confused about the channel thing. Once I turned of
turbo G, everything was fine

OK. We'll assume the WPC11 card is working.

Double check. That would be my guess:

Make sure the "802.11g only mode" is "disabled". Make sure "SSID
Broadcast" is enabled or you will not see the access point SSID.

Oh yeah, be sure to check if the wireless part is even turned on:

See "Wireless Radio" which should be "on".

They do answer the phone (eventually). I assume you mean that you
wasted a few hours trying to get them to solve this problem.

That won't make any difference because the WPC11 scans the channels
for available access points.

The settings shown on the DI-624 online router emulator are the
defaults. You might wanna compare your settings to see where you went
awry.

If all else fails, rest to defaults, reconfigure the LAN and WAN, and
effectively start over.
