WPA2 - unable to connect new laptop to network

I installed and configured new D-link router DIR-625 using WPA2 as security,
and want to add work laptop to my home network. On my work laptop (running
XP, Servicepack 2, current on all patches etc), I configured the properties
of my home network to WPA-PSK, choosing AES as encryption per D-links
recommendation. Then, I entered the exact same passphrase as I had initially
configured on the router (using my private laptop) in the properties. Now, I
should have been able to connect. When trying to connect, the dialog opens
displaying the attempted connect, but after a little while an error message
tells me that either my network is out of range (it shows all 4 bars full
reception), or something else is amiss, and I should refresh the network
list. I did that x times, but nothing changed. I used WEP and a key on that
work laptop before, but it should be possible to get that changed / accepted
without too much fuss.
Any idea what else I could try?
Thanks for any ideas - there is really no support from the manufacturer in
the documentation that I have access to.

WPA2 is not part of standard Windows XP install/update packages.

The following article should help:

"Description of the Wireless Client Update for Windows XP with Service
Pack 2"
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021>

you need http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893357 to add WPA2 support
and to use WPA2 on the DLink.
