WPA in Windows XP

I hope someone out there can help me out, cause I'm tearing my hair out . . .

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 (brand-spanking new) with XP Home Edition
installed. I am using a D-Link DWL-G122 AirPlus G 2.4GHz Wireless USB
Adapter and a Hawking HWR54G wireless router. This set-up works very well
(strong signal, 54 Mbps) when unsecured. However, when I enable WPA-PSK and
create a Key, I run into problems. After a minute or two, I can't access any
internet sites at all even though the icons at the bottom-right of my desktop
tell me that the USB adapter is functioning and that the computer is
connected to the network. When I "repair" the connection (I can't remember
if this is done by clicking the USB adapter icon or the network icon), its
fine for another minute or two and then . . . well you get the idea.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I'll take any help I can get.
Thanks.

This could be caused by a number of factors. Starting at the top, have you
ruled out interference? I'd recommend downloading Netstumbler and
enumerating what channel's neighbouring wireless access points are using:

http://www.netstumbler.com/

If this is not the issue then one workaround you could try is to make the
Key Renewal period very short. Or , alternatively, try the following
registry edit which is downloadable at my blog (click 'Registry Files' under
'Wireless Tweaks' on the front page):
