Hi!
I've installed a small lab network, with one Windows
Server 2003 and several Win XP PRO workstations.
All the machines have Microsoft Wireless Hardware,
basically, MN-700 (base) and MN-720(notebooks), MN-730
(desktops).
Now my problem: I'd like all the machines to use WPA. The
workstations have no problem (they are XP SP2), the
problem is the server (Win2K3 Standard).
Even though all the PCs are working with Microsoft
hardware and software (the server has one MN-730 card),
WPA is not enabled in the server.
I mean, everything works fine (the server and the
workstations communicate perfectly well using WEP); the
only problem is that there's no way to enable WPA in the
server.
I've installed the latest version of everything; all the
machines are completely up-to-date.
Something else: The Microsoft Broadband Network Utility
is unable to check for updates, it does nothing when I
try to check for updates. I also tried the
MSBNDownload.exe updater, but it fails miserably with the
following error:
~~~~
Runtime Error!
Program C:\temp\MSBNDownloadTemp\MSBNDownload.exe
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it
in an unusual way. Please contact the application support
team for more information.
Anyway, I think I have the latest version installed in
the server, but WPA is not there.
Has anyone got WPA working on W2k3 with Microsoft
hardware? It sucks having (IMHO) the best operating
systems, all from Microsoft, and not being able to have
decent wireless security. Perhaps there's a trick or
workaround to make this to work.
Any ideas?
Many thanks.
PS: I'm aware that the software theorically doesn't
support Win2K3.. but it installs and works (without WPA
though). Perhaps there's something I don't know to have
WPA... I'm clueless.
