I am using a MN-720 card, which I can only use by
disabling the security. As soon as I set up WPA using
TKIP the utility reports that it does not support WPA
security in this version. (I have the latest version
downloaded and installed) Using XP Pro (SP1), have
installed the 815485 patch, and it used to work in the
past. I'm connecting to a Linksys WRT54G router, that
worked fine in the past. The Laptop is an HP compaq nc
6000. What am I doing wrong?

do not use the utility. use the native features of Windows XP. also,
you should install SP2 as it is unsafe to be running SP1.

After deinstalling the utility (Which comes with the
hardware and it specifically advises you to install the
software first, I cannot see any network anymore, so the
only option that is left is to deinstall the security on
the router, and work with "MAC address only security".
Mind you, an application like netstumbler sees the
network and the various other networks. How can I
completely deinstall the broadband utility, because it
seems to disrupt proper working altogether after the
upgrade....

can you go into network properties and make sure the box is check to let
Windows Manage your wireless connection?
you should not use the utility to manage the card under XP. also, can you
check Services and confirm that the Wireless Zero Configuration Service is
started? You should start it and set it to automatic.

Hi Barb,

I have not been able to locate the checkbox in the
Network Properties to make sure that Windows manages the
wireless connection, but that may be a result that I do
not have a WiFi network here right now. I'll check again
tonight.
However, I changed the Wireless Zero Configuration
service from manual to automatic, and at least I have my
Cancel and Advanced buttons back in the Wireless Network
Connection dialog. That looks better already. I will have
to check tonight whether the network will work again.

I'll report back to you, but thanks for now!!

Swier.
