WPA G link drops once, then is stable

I'm using a Linksys AP and PC card... WAP 54G, WPC54G. I'm trying to
run WPA on a Dell Inspiron 5100 using Win XP Pro. When I intially log
on I get an immediate connection that drops after 3-4 minutes. I then
get the "Wireless Network is available" bubble. When I click on it
and reconnect my wireless connection is very stable. I just don't
understand why the initial dis-connect. It happens every time. Even
when I'm sitting next to the AP with the laptop.

I have tried so many things...I've reconfigured both the driver
settings and my tcp settings. I've disabled my wireline NIC, I've
unplugged my wireless home phone, and played with enabling/disabling
DHCP. I've reset all of the devices on my network. The Linksys G WPA
driver does not give you the option to turn off authentication, nor
can you set the encryption key in the Device Mgr. interface. (Makes
disabling WZC an impossiblity)

If any of you have run into this and resolved it, I could sure use a
hand...

thanks,
rick pappas

I have the same problem, with a few others overlaid. WPA, and to some
extent "G" technology", is not yet stable.

I believe the initial disconnect problem you are experiencing is due to the
WZC. There are also problems with my Linksys WRT54G, which causes it to
disappear occasionally for a few minutes. Finally, there is buggy driver
software for the cards. I have a Dell Truemobile 1300 (which is essentially
the same card as the WPC54G, based on Broadcom chips). The Dell, Linksys
and Belkin drivers are virtually the same (Linksys and Belkin are versions
3.20.21.0, the Dell is 3.20.23.0). By using an HP driver (version
3.30.somthing), I have reduced some of the problems I've been experiencing.

Wait a few months and hopefully they will work out some of the kinks from
this new technology.

I've seen this problem happen on my Linksys G router and also on my MN700.
Same as you describe.

Exact same behaviour here with Dell Inspiron 5100 and Belkin 54g
DSL/Cable Router and WPA-PSK (TKIP).

Hi,

I have a Linksys WRT54G (wireless router) and a laptop card WPC54G
and I had EXACTLY the same problem when enabling WPA-PSK...
Now I just installed the brand-new patch from Microsoft which you can find
here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826942

and it seems to be OK !

Thanks to all of you who replied to my newsgroup post regarding my
unstable wireless connection. It has been fixed!!!!

In the post from Cisc0, he mentions the new Microsoft Wireless Zero
Configuration rollup (patch). It worked for me just as well as it did
for him.

I sincerely hope that it fixes your problems with this issue as well.
You can find it at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Thanks again for your help!
