does anyone know if msoft is going to release a WPA update for win2k
as they did for winxp?

otherwise, you can't enable wpa and win2k without an outside vendor:

Thank you for contacting Linksys Technical Support.

Before setting up WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security across your
wireless network, be sure to have the compatible wireless adapters and
proper
software in order to receive the signal.

Compatible Linksys Wireless Adapters at this time include:
.. WPC11 v3 with driver 3.0.4.205 or higher (Windows XP or 2000
users only).
.. WPC54G with driver 3.10.53.6 or higher (Windows XP or 2000
users only).
.. WMP54G with driver 3.20.23 or higher (Windows XP or 2000
users
only).

Note: You also must be using Windows XP with the WPA HotFix installed
(Q815485), or Windows 2000 with a third party utility that supports
WPA, such as Funk Software's Odyssey Client software.
