I just noticed that Proxim updated their WPA white paper.
http://www.proxim.com/learn/library/...hite_Paper.pdf

Specifically, the table includes their "classic" B-only cards...it
used to recommend a 3rd party supplicant as a way to get WPA on the
old B cards, but now that table references a footnote that says:

"For the strongest security, Proxim recommends migration to IEEE
802.11g client cards as the 802.11b only clients are not upgradeable
to AES and IEEE 802.11i due to hardware limitations. Proxim ORiNOCO
802.11g and dual 802.11a/g client cards are upgradeable to AES and
802.11i when ratified."

Best Regards,

AES is a different encryption scheme than TKIP. TKIP uses a similar
algorithm to WEP. Just about all cards use hardware to accelerate the
encryption/decryption process. Often, the same hardware can accelerate both
TKIP and WEP. However, this is not the case for AES with older cards so
these may not be able to encrypt and decrypt fast enough.
