We might be getting broadband soon and wondered which ISP to go with (I know
it's a matter of personal choice and opinion), What Internet Service
Provider are you all with? are they any good?

thanx in advance,

I'm with Tiscali BB and it is truly the worst ISP I have ever been with.

Not only are they not providing the service I am paying for, they are
denying the fact that there are problems at their end, their technical
support staff make my mother look like she knows everything about PC's, BB
etc (and she actually knows nowt), their customer service staff are
completely disgusting and unprofessional (cut you off if they don't agree
with you).. need I go on?

They are all okay, except for Blueyonder.

PlusNet has won award for service and reliability and also 'the best ISP on
the planet'
(see net4nowt.com news).
They are also cheapest from the well known and respected providers - from
£18.99 p/m if you don't need P2P or binaries, £21.99 otherwise.
My connection hasn't missed a beat since May installation.
If you decide to go with them you could save me few pennies, use me as
referrer 'jerryw'.
Thanks & regards,
Martin

Nildram. One of the fastest and most reliable out there. Been with them
for over 2 years. My only complaint is the fact that there usenet service
has gone downhill in recent times. If your not interested in binaries
though, I doubt you'll find a better ISP.

All different!

Yes, most of the time. Honestly, without knowing anything about your
expected use of the service, it's like "how long is a piece of string"
query... Have you any priorities concerning use (eg news service is
important, you want to run peer-to-peer software, you se Netmeeting,
you are a gamer, you want to host servers, you need lots of webspace)?

If you're after multiple fixed IP addresses, then you might consider
Zen. Some gamers might choose another ISP. If you are after a low
price to pay each month, then perhaps PlusNet with its accounts from
18.99 (my link <http://tinyurl.com/8ib9>) or higher webspace at 21.99
would be for you... Some offer better news services than others - for
example, while Clara's news is having a rough time at present, FreeUK
which is managed by Clara staff offers 10 GB of news (instead of the
'unlimited' deal for Claranet ADSL users) but for 22.99 a month not
the higher fee (28? - I could only find ADSL products for business
users and the Home access link showed only dial-up services, so I
cannot be sure what the heck they charge now for home ADSL!!)

I've been using a news and mail account from Clara, and have had an
ADSL service from a couple of ISPs, but along with my friends and some
neighbours we use AOL, BT Openworld, Demon, Eclipse, Freeserve, Metronet
(PAYG that starts at 10+VAT a month), PlusNet and Zen... none of them
have had major problems that I know of (though some are overpriced,
in my opinion, and why I've just cancelled my Freeserve a/c). So,
what are your priorities please ? Peter M.

It's 29.99 a month from Claranet, under the Solo name... Well, it
is under the business section and in keeping with their "business
ISP" rebranding for the website, perhaps. Peter M.
