Workstation to Server Connections

I have a small office network, running Server 2003 and XP Home on 5
workstations.

I'm having a problem with maintaining a persistant or constant connection
between the workstations and the server. Each morning when a user attempts
to connect with a shared folder on the server, they get a dialog box asking
for the user name and password.

As far as I can tell, each shared folder is accessible to "everyone", and
each workstation belongs to the same workgroup, etc.

You could possibly tweak the registry for network share timeout... however I
don' think that really will work for you. The issue is you are running XP
home and looking for the useability of XP Pro. There most likely is not
anything you can do.

The "Tip" (actually SOP - Standard Operating Procedure) is to make sure each
user has the EXACT SAME userID and Password on both the workstation AND on
the server. Then they will not be prompted to login when connecting to a
share.

I'd strongly suggest upgrading your workstations to XP Pro, and creating an
AD domain instead of using a workgroup. There's really not much value in
having W2003 in this office otherwise. XP Home does not belong on a business
network (I'm not even a fan of it for home users, as it's so crippled).

If you use a domain, and join all the workstations to it, you have a single
security database to worry about & can use login scripts, group policy, etc.
