Workstation renaming procedures

running win2003 server natively on our domain and we've had to rename our
workstations on the domain, but we're getting some rather odd things
happening after we do.

The old names don't go away or disable (that is, they are usually still
listed in the AD OU), and sometimes even when the new names show up, the
users lose connection with the DNS server (and so can't log in).

Is there an article on the "best practices" for renaming computers that are
already on the domain? I'm not talking about servers or domain controllers,
just workstations. What we've been doing is logging in on the macnine
locally as administrator, renaming the computer as a member of a workgroup,
rebooting, then adding them back to the domain with the new name.

thanx,

jj

Make a batch script and do it from the comfort of your office.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.
