working machenism of ping

hai,

can any one would tell me how exactly ping works. I know that
ping is used to check for the connection between two machine in a
network.Please give me the background working of ping.

He sends out a special 'reply me' message that asks the destination
machine to respond with a related message back. It's better explained
in the various RFC.
