Since the scenario is a workgroup, you would first either create identical
user accounts/pwds to the user accounts the users are logging on to their
own PCs that has permissions to access the shares/folders so they don't get
prompted for credentials, or create one user account that will be used for
credentials when you map to the share.
Share the folder. Rt-click the folder, select Sharing and Security, click on
Share this folder', in the permissions, (to keep it simple), you can either
leave it as Users:Read, or if you want to allow them to change stuff, give
Users:Change. Under the Security tab, mimic that.
To map a share, there are a number of ways. One way - Thru the GUI, you can
rt-click My Computer, Map Network Drive, supply the UNC
(\\servername\sharename) and choose Z: drive. If you need to supply
credentials for that single user account you created (from above if you want
to do it that way), click on "Connect using a different user name" and
supply the credentials as \\servername\UsernameYouCreatedOnThatMachine, and
give it the password. If you created identical accounts, skip that step. To
make it reconnect each time a user logs on, make sure "Reconnect at logon"
is checked.
If the firewall is turned on, you will need to either allow File and Print
Sharing or disable the firewall.
I hope that helped.
