I previously posted this in the Media Center group and someone suggested I
post it in a networking group so here goes. I should point out this
workgroup does not have any Windows server software running on it.
The network consists of a single workgroup "WORKGROUP" with the following
PCs:
- XP Pro x 2
- XP Home x 1
- XP WMC (the problem laptop)
- W2K SP4 x 1
The problem appears localized on the WMC laptop, as the rest of the network
functions fine and the problem exists if the WMC laptop is put on a
different network. So, here is the original post:
================================================== ==========
Have a WMC SP2 that cannot browse the local workgroup. At one time it
could, but now, the event log posts this message:
"The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times
on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_ (GUID HERE). The backup browser is
stopping."
Another message:
"The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from teh browser
master \\Server on the network \Device\NetBT_TCPIP (GUID HERE)."
The laptop can ping anything on the network and Internet works fine on it.
The workgroup name is correct, it is receiving an appropriate IP addy from
the DHCP server on the network, it just isn't able to browse the workgroup.
All PCs on the network can see the problem laptop, but none can browse to it
throug "View Workgroup Computers".
Any suggestions ???
TIA
