I am unable to get a DLINK DWL-G630 802.11g wireless pcmcia card working on
my laptop (Mandriva LE2005 linux). I added the card as a new network
wireless connection in Mandrake Control Center (mcc), chose to use
the wrapper, it used the net5211.inf file off the CDROM that came with the
card, and seemed to install it:
"Configuring network device wlan0 (driver) with
[x]Automatic IP (BOOTP/DHCP)"
Next screen I went with the defaults for 'Assign Hostname from DHCP, Track
Card, Start at Boot' (I figure I can not really set a gateway ip or assign
an ip off my router, since the purpose of the laptop is to use it at cafes
and airports and such). Next screen I chose defaults 'Managed' mode, 'any'
ESSID, no encryption.
During system boot, I see
"Bringing up interface wlan0 [OK]"
but when I do a iwconfig command i only see
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extension
eth0 no wireless extension
sit0 no wireless extension
(eth0 is the built-in LAN port on my laptop.)
wlan0 is not listed in output from ifconfig. Why is wlan0 detected
during boot, but not with iwconfig? Any help on getting this card to work
with my system greatly appreciated. Yes I can use my laptop with its
builtin wireless with MS-Windows when out and about, but I really want to
use my laptop at wifi spots in cafes and such with Linux-- sure would be
nice to get it working with Linux.
