WLAN Activity Question

I have a WLAN setup using a PCMCIA Wi-Fi card (Orinoco Silver) in my
notebook to a SMC Wireless/Wired Barricade router connected to the
cable modem.

I notice that the Orinoco LED "activity" indicator flashes quite often
(like right now as I write this post) even when there is apparently no
actual connection (or other) request being made to the Internet.

Is this just "overhead" activity between the card and the router or is
it some sort of un-ordered (by me) Internet going on due to some
computer activity?

I'm thinking that some sort of monitor is needed. Can someone
recommend some sort of an Internet monitor program
(preferably Freeware if available) which will give a readout of some
kind telling me the connection IP address of this "activity" so I can
trace to where the computer is sending or receiving something?

Thanks.

John

Your wireless card "talks" to your router a minimum of every 10
milliseconds, IIRC, so yes, there is constant activity in human terms.

If you want to see your traffic, there are a few free sniffer
programs, I use Ethereal. http://www.ethereal.com/
