Wiring solid UTP cable to terminals?

Having established that running a CAT6 cable from my attic room to the
lounge will be OK, I now have a totally newbie question about wiring:

I've got some CAT6 terminal sockets for the walls and would like to run
the cable into the bedroom, break it, then run the rest to the ground
floor. Do I just wire each end up and plug in hub? Or is it more
complicated?

Also - the terminals in the wall sockets are colour-coded, but it
doesn't seem to be simply a matter of wiring each filament to the
relevant colour - there are terminals labelled A and B and stuff.

Does anyone know of any diagrams I can look at?

Great - I'll have a read of that over the weekend and see if I can work
it out. For some reason I was finding it really difficult to find any
wiring diagrams with Google.
