Several months ago, I purchased a Linksys WRV54G wireless VPN
router/firewall. My experience with this unit has been absolutely abysmal.
The wireless section continues to crash, typically multiple times per day,
despite several firmware upgrades. Recent versions of the firmware crash
the VPN server on any connection attempt, while older firmware versions
don't support netbios over VPN (which is a requirement for our usage).
Multiple phone calls and emails to their tech support department have been
very frustrating and completely useless. Promised firmware fixes for these
problems have not materialized. I am extremely disappointed in this unit,
to say the least, especially since my previous experiences with Linksys
equipment had generally been very favorable.
Therefore, I am now in the market for a replacement for this total piece of
junk. My budget is as low as possible, but definitely under $500,
preferably under $300. In this range, the only other comparable units that
I am aware of are the DLink DI-824VUP and the Netgear FWAG114. Note that
both wireless G and multiple VPN tunnel capabilities in a single unit are
required for our purposes.
Does anyone out there have any experience with either of these units, or any
other wireless VPN router/firewall units with similar capabilities and at a
relatively low price? Do they work as advertised? Are they reliable?
Thanks,
s/KAM
