Wireless transfer of files

I don't have a clue and hope someone can help me.

I recently bought a laptop which is all set up for wireless. I bought a wireless
router for my desktop, and I get a very good signal from the router to the
laptop for internet connections. So I know that part works.

I want to transfer files from my desktop to the laptop. Can I do this
wirelessly? The desktop is connected to the wireless router via cable. There is
no wireless antenna in the desktop. I turned on the laptop, established a
wireless connection to the router then went through the file transfer wizard.
I'm using Windows XP on both computers. But when I get to a certain point, it
tells me that the desktop can't locate the laptop.

Bottom line is I'm totally confused on where to start or how to do a wireless
transfer of files, unless the problem lies in no antenna card installed in my
desktop.

I'd really appreciate any help on how to get started, or even better, a
step-by-step on how to do this if possible.

Thanks so much.

Hi,
Seeing signal in the Wireless configuration application, or reading somewhere in the
system that you are connected, does not mean that you actually have a functional
Wireless connection.
If you can use the Internet with your Wireless Computer, the Wireless connection is OK.
If you do not have an Internet connection available, a simple way to ascertain that you
have a connection is to try to use the Internet Browser in a Wireless Client computer
and find out if you can connect to the Router's (Access Point) Menus (see your hardware
manual for the Router's IP Address, the login name and the password).
If you cannot connect to the Router this might help.
Wireless Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html
Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html
Once the Wireless is actually connected, you need to configure each computer Sharing
settings. May be this can help http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

Just fixed a similar problem with my wireless laptop. I had to disable the
blocking by Norton Internet Security.
