first of all we are about 600mtrs apart with line of site(no buildings etc)
but there is a tree in the way. will the equipment below still give us a
good connection. we also want to share broadband.

HOUSE 1 has the broadband connection.
1 PC based here
Router(4 port)
Access point Dlink DWL-900AP+
Low loss LMR400 cable to the 19DB directional antenna

HOUSE 2
19DB directional antenna to LMR400 cable
Access point Dlink DWL-900AP+
Network Switch
2 PC's

Cheers
Kev

Access points in bridging mode, this link should work, the 19dB antennas at
each end will have more than enough gain to get 600m and through trees.

Paul this is interesting, see my post below you (advise on new ap) Iam also
using a dlink dwl-900ap+
and having problems, in my case it is trying to get 3km
using a 20.5dbi parabolic antenna, have tried using the pigtails straight to
the antenna from the dlink with very poor results, infact results were
almost as good with the built in antenna.
am seriously thinking about changing my ap to the new usr turbo with more
power out, but also looking for advise.

20dB antennas at each end on a clear run with minimal coax should get link
in the region of 15km+. Your struggling at 3km suggests either your antennas
are poorly aligned (either azimuth or elevation) or there is something in
the way.

The best links are done with better antennas not more power. This is true
for all RF communications.

I have heard stories of links over 20km working at full speed. Clear LOS is
essential, don't forget earth curvature.
