I have a new t40 thinkpad, they didn't instal the intel wireless 2100
card . Before I install it Idid some reading and it looks like people
are having difficulty with connections. I'm wondering if I would be
better off using a pcmcia wireless card, I don't need the slot for
anything else.

thoughts?

thanks

Why don't you try it for yourself before worrying about whether or not you need to replace it.

There were some questions early on in the Centrino release about a flaw
in the Intel minipci card. The early problems seem to have disappeared,
perhaps from a driver update for the card? Check with IBM. There are
many reports of satisfactory Centrino wireless performance. Frankly, if
you have the card, why not try it?

Q

because installing it is a major hassel. i've read enough that i'm
returning the mini pci card and using a pc card until the kinks are
worked out.

normally I would agree with you but installing it requires removing
the palm rest and keyboard and opening up the whole laptop. Im not
anxious to do that. I don't want to send it back to ibm for them to
do it either. if it was a slot underneath that was easily accessible I
would.
I've done more research and a lot of people have put in the mini pci
card and will turn it off and use a pc card in certain situation.
Since I have a pc card Im working wirelessly and that's all that
matters right now.
thanks.
