Hi..I have a set up like this...

1. Laptop PC connected by ethernet cable to a lynksys wireless router (
running win2000 pro)

2.Desktop PC connected to the same lynksys router, by ethernet cable (
running winXp home)

3 A wireless centrino laptop ( running winXp home)

as expected, the laptop and desktop are connected to the router and work
FINE in sharing the connection, but the problem is with the wireless
centrino laptop.

Basically, when i turn ON or boot up the centrino, it can't connect or wont
show the wireless router as a connection point...BUT...on turning the router
OFF and then switching it back ON, the laptop recognises the router and then
connects.

Is there any setting etc that i need to adjust to ensure the centrino picks
up the wireless signal and connects WITHOUT having to turn OFF and turning
ON the wireless router??

this is tearing my hair out as it disrupts the other users when i want to go
online with the centrino.

thanks in advance!!!

Ah, this is interesting. The same happens with my parents' new laptop
(Acer 16xx WLMi, or similar), this is with a Netgear wireless router.
It was fine with their old laptop and a PC card, also I think it has
been fine when they had a D-Link router. I've not been able to find out
why the hell it's actually doing it now though, the odd thing is that
although it sometimes can't see the Netgear signal at all (even though
it's prefectly fine), it *can* usually see someone else's network on the
street (can't connect, it's protected).

Are you both using WPA? Maybe rebooting the router resets the initial key.

No, in my parents case I don't think they are using any sort of
authentification (not my preference, but I leave it up to my brother who
lives there).

Well that's one thing in common! I'll get them to try it with at least
a WEP key when I next pop round and see if it makes a difference. Not
sure how that'd explain why the laptop sometimes can't see the SSID
which is definitely being broadcast.
