Wireless Speeds

Does anyone know why I can only pull 1.7 mbps wirelessly
and 5mbps if I run a cable directly from my router to my
pc? I tried changing wireless channels to see if that
would help but it dont, and I am only about 20 feet from
the router so range is not an issue. Is it time to upgrade
my router possibly?

Actual wireless throughput is usually less than 1/2 the rating. That is, if
you're running 802.11b on the LAN which is rated at 11, you're doing very
well to pull 4.5/5.0 on it. Wireless has a lot of overhead.

No, no, no, I am only pulling 1.7mbps wirlessly on a 5mbps
line....1.7 is not even half my speed...any answers?

If your DSL (I'm guessing) is at 5mbps, you're still limited by whatever the
wireless rating is. If you're running a 802.11b, max is 11 mbps, *.11g is
54. That's all you're going to get wirelessly, no matter how fast your
Internet connection might be.
