Wireless speed slower than cable modem direct connection

Hi,
I recently subscribed to a 4 MB cable connection. I have a Microsoft
Wireless router and a centrino laptop.

When I connect my laptop directly to cable modem using ethernet, the
bandwidth I get is about 4.5 Mbps. However when I swith to Wireless,
the bandwith is reduced to half, even if the singnal strength is
excellent.

Since my network supports up to 11 Mbps network speeds, this is not
suppose to happen. Could someone help with this issue?

I use Windows XP.

You don't get the full 11Mbps speed out of a 11b nic.

However, 2.2Mbps is a bit low.
For one directional traffic, I see around 8Mbps.
Have you tried changing channel?
