I have cable internet installed and want to access this from two computers
in
other rooms in the house and am looking for advice on what products I need
to get. The two computers are a desktop and a laptop. A low cost solution
is best. Thank you. derek

1) 802.11B will be the cheapest since it is on the way out.

2) Unless you are sharing files between the machines, the 802.11B is fine
as it is 11Mbps, which will be 3 to 4 times faster than your internet
connection

3) If you are doing a lot of machine to machine transfers - the faster the
better. Wired would be best for that.

I would suggest a wireless router. Place it in the room with the desktop,
on a wired connection, and use a wireless connection for the laptop. I'd
suggest going with a router and PC card that already have WPA for the
encryption, so may need to go with G instead of B. I'm happy with Linksys,
but not that the WPA upgrade is not available (at least not yet) for my
access point (I already had a router). It's also better if the router has
an SPI (stateful packet inspection) firewall.
