Wireless settings problem

Having trouble setting up a wireless connection for my room mate.
Every time we set up and connect to theinternet, I have to tick a
checkbox in the properties of the external ethernet adapter.
the problem is that whenever the computer is restarted, the settings
are lost and mus be set again.
Is there any way to keep the settings despite restarting the system?

Using windows xp, and that's where the setting must be, I just can't
find it.
