wireless router won't work

I have a dsl connection and a linksys befsr41 router thats been working
for years

when I try and change to wireless router (dlink or linksys) I get a
connection for a few hours, then the connection is dropped (connection
is wired)

if I power down the modem and the router, restart, connection ok again
for awhile until next drop?

any ideas?
