hello everyone,

I have been trying to find answers about how fast do you really
need a router to be. My down load speeds are usually 1000 to
1600o kbps.

when the router says 11 mps, 22 mps, 54mps, or can drop down to
1 to 5 mps.

So how fast would you need to would you need to watch streaming
videos?

thanks for your time
Michael

Currently the average DSL and cable modems are far slower then 11mbs so
that's not your worry. Of course
there's bandwidth (mine 256kbps DSL) and transfer rates (30kB/s). Streaming
video is around 300kbps
But that 11mb is shared between all nodes on your router. Right now 11 is
plenty as it won't be the bottleneck in your connection more then likely
your inet connection will.

It may not seem it, but this is a complicated question. If your router
is faster than your internet connection, then it is fast enough for
sharing that internet connection. It's file sharing between *your*
computers that demands faster speeds. If you don't do that much file
sharing between your computers, almost any wireless router will be
faster than your internet connection.

As for video streaming, it depends, it depends, it depends. Take a look
at http://www.cybertechmedia.com/compare.html But notice that even the
fastest connections listed are slower than what you describe as your
internet connection, and far slower than today's wireless routers.
