Wireless router for NTL

Hi,
Someone has asked me to recommend a wireless router to be used with one laptop
via an NTL cable connection. She went to Curry's and they told her that she
would also have to purchase security software to stop other people from using
her connection. I was under the impression that ALL routers came equipped with
WEP/WPA encryption as standard. I would appreciate clarification on this, and
some recommendations please.

Thanks

Modern routers will all have WEP/WPA. No additional software will be needed.
In fact, it could be argued that by using a router with a built-in firewall
(as most have), *less* software is needed! (Bloody DSG, should be closed
down, mutter, mutter!)

Note that not all router security features are enabled as standard, so read
the documentation carefully.

Netgear is flavour of the month around here I would suggest, and pretty
decent stuff in my admittedly limited experience.

HTH

Thanks Chris,

Will all netgear routers connect to cable, or only certain models.

Well, all *cable* ones will ;-)

For example:

I have no experience of this particular one, although it should do the job
AFAIK.

I have a Linksys wireless router running fine with NTL cable modem. WEP &
WPA (& others, I think) encryption is available to select. Running one pc
wired & 3 wireless. No probs. (if that helps)
