Wireless router Disconnecting

Hi all

Looking for some pointers with a problem I have started getting with my
Belkin Wireless ADSL Modem Router.

My setup has performed faultlessly for about 12 months then suddenly I
noticed the every morning when I turn my PC on the Router had lost its
connection over night, the only way to restore connection is to disconnect
the router from the mains for a couple of minutes.

I have changed nothing other than go from a 1 meg to 2 meg service and it
was fine on this for the first month.

Anyone got any pointers as to where I should start looking for the problem.

look at the SNR / Noise margin upstream and downstream, if this is a
small number it points to a marginal connection. Post those and the
attenuation stats.

the data, or post the model number for help.

Let's be 100% clear about this - is it your wireless connection thats
dropping, or your wireless routers' connection to the internet? Can you
ping your router when it drops?

You've changed nothing...apart from one of the most fundamental aspects of
your internet connection ;-)

Certainly. Looks like your line can only just support[1] 2M, and some straw
comes along every night and breaks your camel's back. DSL Max may help you,
as your line may be able to sync at just under 2M a lot more stably than at
2M.

Let's be 100% clear about this - is it your wireless connection thats
dropping, or your wireless routers' connection to the internet? Can you
ping your router when it drops?

As others have asked, it *is* the internet connection and not the wireless
connection which has dropped, isn't it?

If so, isn't there a status page, which you can get to by pointing your
browser at your router's IP address, and which has a 'connect' button -
allowing you to re-connect without having to power the router off?

Better still, there should be parameters which you can set for idle timeout
and connect on demand - which should make the process automatic as soon as
you try to access the internet from a connected PC.

As to why it's dropping - who is your ISP, and what service are you buying
from them?Some ISP's (such as PlusNet on some services) have taken to
applying their own disconnections after an idle period. If your ISP is doing
this, the best way to prevent it is to make sure that you're never idle for
more than the relevant time - 30 minutes or whatever - which means something
like leaving a PC on, checking for emails at regular intervals.

But if you can fix it so that automatically re-connects, that fact that it
disconnects over night doesn't really matter.

Its the router to the internet connection that is dropping, I can ping and
comunicate with the router when the connection is dropped and both machines
connected to the router can connect to each other.

Yes I do appreciate that but as it worked fine for the first month I thought
it may not be the problem.

It also always drops over night when the computers are turned off and almost
never during the day when they are in use.

Yes its the Internet and not the wireless that is losing the connection.

If I use the connect button or even the re start router option it will not
re-connect, I have to disconnect from the mains for a couple of minuits

Idle timeout is set to 10 minuts with options of 0 to 99

I am on Wonadoo 2meg.

I do not have an auto reconnect option, well not one I can find anyway

Try setting this to 0, that normally means no timeout.

line is about 1 km, good for 8Mbits/s, virtually no errors reported.
