Wireless router for dialup

I am wanting to connect two computers together on a network, so they
can both access the Internet simultaneously. I do not want to leave
one computer on and use ICS, so I would like to go for a router. One
of the computers will be a laptop with a wireless card, so I would
like to have a wireless router that supports dialup networking. The
only two I have found are the SMC SMC7004AWBR and the D-link DI-713P.
I haven't heard good things about the SMC7004AWBR. Does anyone have
any preference two those two routers? Any other better solutions?

Another question I have is, how does the dialup portion work? Does it
connect on demand? Or do you have to log into the router and manually
connect? I'm just curious as to how that would work.

I appreciate any help you can provide
Thanks

I think that any router that has a RS232 connection can use a dial-up
modem. You could just get a good dial-up router and use a stand alone AP
plugged into the router. The other ones are good if you go broadband one
day. The routers are made like pop corn so you can run into a bad batch. So
to say that one brand name is worse than others, I couldn't say.

I ran this type of set up for over a year before my area had ADSL
access. I used a D-Link DI-704 attached to a stand alone modem and a
netgear wireless access point.

If your router can run a modem (there are some with built in dial up
modems), you just set your router to use the dial up connection, enter
username, password, and number and whether or not you want the
connection to time out. The router will handle the connection from there.

I've used the "wired" version of the SMC 7004 for a while, dialup only,
as no DSL or cable in these parts yet....

Works fine, but have to either manually turn the external modem on and
off when I want to call out, or go thru the (http) setup screen to do
so. The 7004 allows only one PC on the LAN to have control over the
setup back door, so SWMBO and I simply use the power switch on the
external modem.... /mark
