Depending on the printer, you most likely can buy a "print server" that
will provide an interface between the router and the printer. For
example only, Linksys has a couple:

Netgear, etc., have similar products).
Until relatively recently, the generally-accepted wisdom was that
functions other than printing (e.g., scanning) don't work well (or at
all) through print servers. That said, however, starting this past
January, Linksys began offering a wireless print server that it claims
will give you "full access to printing, faxing, scanning, and copying
functions":
