Wireless Problems

I am having a few problems with a Sony Laptop with the wireless connections.
The first odd thing is that all signals that appear in the Wireless Network
Connection show full strength, even though other computers show some signals
as poor. I am also unable to use remote desktop to connect or the VPN to
connect to other computers.
