Hello all

Can anyone help I have a belkin FSD 7630 Wireless Modem Router, connected
to 1 PC with an ethernet connection 1 laptop with a wireless PCMCIA card
1 desktop PC with a PCI wireless card.

All was working fine for a few days until I went to use the laptop and
received a no signal report this was the same on the desktop PC
so I went and checked the Router settings all were correct.
The only way I could restore wireless connection was to pull the power
plug on the route and allow the thing to reset.
I have updated the firmware and restored the Route to factory settings,
but after a time wireless transmission ceases again and I have to pull
the plug.

any help would be much appreciated

Many thanks Dave

Are you *sure* that the router had stopped transmitting - or had the
wireless devices simply lost touch with it?

Does the router have a WLAN status light? Was it lit? On the router admin
menu, is there a status page? What does that say about Wireless being
enabled or otherwise when this problem occurs?

Are you using any wireless security measures? If so, what?

Thanks for your reply Tim

Yes the WLAN light on the Router is on and the status page says wireless
enabled
and I am using no wireless security measures.
I actually bring the laptop next to me when I am trying to sort the
problem so signal strength would not be an issue.
I can watch the signal return to the laptop as I power down and up the
Router.
The same thing is happening with the PC uptairs.

Cheers Dave

What happens if you stop and re-start the wireless card on the laptop
without powering down the router?

If you tell the laptop to look for wireless networks, can it find it?

My guess is that the router is ok, and that you need to reset something on
the PCs.

Is the laptop set up to connect to the wireless network automatically on
bootup? If so, re-boot it next time this problem happens - but don't touch
the router - and see what happens.

Mine is that is not necessarily so. I have a different model of wireless
router (SMC Barricade) and used to find the same thing happened, in my case
it was always when the wireless part of the network was heavily loaded. Now
that all my PCs are cabled to the router, the problem doesn't occur.

Take it back to the supplier.

Your explanation doesn't rule out a problem at the PC end of the wireless
link - which is what I was suggesting. Going wired would fix that!

Thank you for your reply's
This is the situation now. Tim yes I think the router was still transmitting
I used a scanner and picked up a signal even when the Laptop said no network
detected, Then I read somewhere that the router should not be placeed on top
of the pc casing so I moved it about 30cm to the side of the PC. well guess
what? now everthing is working fine good TX from the router for 2 days now,
I can only guess that some sort of signal was being picked up possibly in
the speaker leads and corrupting the PC in some way. I no that this can
happen from my Ham Radio exploits.

Thanks again
Dave

Purely for the record, and noting the OP's reply about moving the router,
the position of the router and/or a problem at the PC end were not true in
my case (eg: happened with more than one PC). The wireless part of my
router did genuinely have a problem when fully laden, but it has always
been fine over cable. However, I haven't really had a chance to test the
wireless after the most recent software upgrades.
