Wireless problems between Dell TrueMobile 1400 and Linksys WRT54G

Hi,

I'm having problems with the 802.11g connection between my new Dell M60
laptop (Dell TrueMobile 1400 Dual Band WLAN Mini-PCI card) and my
Linksys WRT54G v1. I'm seeing variable and large latency, and at times
packet loss. This occurs even if I'm within 1 metre of the Linksys.
This is normally the only system in the area on the wireless although I
have a 2.4GHz cordless phone.

If I fire up my old laptop which has a Linksys WPC54G card, I see no
problems with it. Both machines are running Windows XP Pro SP1. I've
got the latest TrueMobile 1400 drivers and WRT54G firmware installed.

Can anybody make any suggestions as to what I should try next?

I tried doing a "ping -t" from both machines, starting with the one that
works. Except for one 16ms packet when I enabled wireless on the flaky
machine, the good machine saw a consistent 1ms round trip time. Details
as follows:

"Good" laptop:
Ping statistics for 192.168.0.100:
Packets: Sent = 268, Received = 268, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 16ms, Average = 1ms

"Bad" Dell laptop:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

The issue is most likely due to the fact that the card i
802.11a/b/g(draft) and is having problems with the regular 'g' mode.
would suggest you see if you can find a firmware update for it. Tha
my bump it up to the regular 'g' standard and might help out with th
error rates
