I'm running SUSE 9.0 Professional...
I have a problem with a PCMCIA WLAN card on my Acer Aspire 1304LC laptop.
The WLAN card is a 3COM OfficeConnect 3CRSHPW796. When I enable PCMCIA it
detects the card and creates a eth1 interface that can only be viewed with
the command "ipconfig -a". When I choose to configure network interfaces
under YaST it doesn't show up as detected. If I add it manually as a
Wireless PCMCIA card it appears on the list with devicename wlan-pcmcia.
If I now start the network with the command "ipconfig wlan-pcmcia eth1" it
gives me the following error:
Error for wireless request "Set Nickname" (8B1C)
SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported.
After this it tries to get an IP address via DHCP and fails. Assigning a
static IP address to the interface doesn't work either.
If I run iwconfig without any parameters it lists eth1 as a wireless NIC
and the strage thing (for me at least) is that it lists the name of the
Access Point as well as the MAC address of the access point, so something
is working.
Any ideas?
