I realize this has been asked before, but I'm reading many more
questions than answers, and, even then, answers with uncertainties and
caveats.
I have recently begun trying to set up wireless cards with my FC4
desktop and laptop, and am new at this. Could anyone please recommend
a card make and model which is known to work? I have struck out twice
with a couple of cardbus cards from D-Link - the DWL-650 and DWL-G630,
both of which i bought because various posts led me to believe they'd
work. The former was a complete "doa" because I was ignorant at that
time about the chipset variations within one Make and Model name.
I tried the DWL-G630 with ndiswrapper but ran into what appears to be a
CONFIG_K4STACKS problem with my FC4 stock kernel. The card freezes the
system completely, with the stock kernel (2.6.11-1.1369). (I tried to
recompile the kernel without that option, but still have been unable to
compile a fully functioning kernel. I built one that boots but the
ndiswrapper fails to compile with the self-built kernel)
Do I go with a Hawk Tech HWP54G-CA, or with the Orinoco Wavelan, or
something else?
I actually prefer a CardBus (to be adapted with a PCMCIA-to-PCI
adapter, since I'd be able to use the card with my laptop as well);
however, if there is a PCI card with a higher probability that it will
work, i will opt for the straight PCI card.
TIA
