If your laptop doesn't have the slot for the wireless PC card is there any
other alternative? Like maybe through a USB port? My son used his laptop on
the network at school through a plug in type of set up. Now that he's home I
thought we could do wireless network but no PC card slot. we bought a
Netgear 802.11g Wireless router.

NetGear, LinkSys, D-Link, Belkin, SMC sell USB Wi-Fi adapters which work
fine. Try Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Frys. Luck

Thanks Gator. Is that what they're called "Wi-Fi adapters" ? I'd like to
stick with Netgear.

I've seen plenty of 802.11(b) USB adapters but I'm not sure I've seen a (g)
one. A (b) one should interwork, especially if it's from the same
manufacturer, although I understand it may slow down your (g) setup!

I went on the Netgear website & they have a WG121 which looks like it's
compatible with the 802.11g (I hope)

Jim,

You answered your own question. I use a Netgear USB adapter, model
MA111, about $39 (US).

Yup. That's the one. I'm using the (b) equivalent.

No mention of the stronger WPA security protocol on this new product, to my
surprise.
