hi,
my house is cat5 networked for 4 computers but a jack in one room is
not in a good place and i have to string a wire from it to my laptop
and it keeps getting tripped over etc. is there a wireless device i
can use from just one jack? the router is in another part of the
house.
i tried a wireless system for the whole house and it wouldn't work.
(too much distance and walls)
thanks SO much!

Yes. Attach your access point to that ethernet port.

Hello

Any access-point should work.

Best regards

hi and thanks!
could you suggest an 'access point'? so i would buy the wireless card for
my laptop and this access point for the jack correct? no changes need to be
made to the router and modem setup?

There should be no changes to the router needed. Almost any access point
should be OK.

You'll need a wireless router (WRT54G) or Access Point (WAP54G) to plug into
your cable modem/DSL modem and a client box or netowtk adapter for your
computer.

There are lots of choices for the client: A WET54G will work the best and cost
the most. A USB connector (WUSB54G) or PCI card (WMP54G) will also work.

Here is a link to linksys' wireless products. 802.11b is the most
common. Most others will operate as a b type. Just make sure the access
point and the wireless card operate the same (a,b,g).

Janet, get a D-Link 900+ Access Point and a short enough Ethernet cable to
connect it to the wall jack. When all has been connected, you should see the
green "connect" light on the router illuminated indicating you don't need a
crossover Ethernet cable.
