Wireless networking newbie

I am just about to go broadband on a wireless network. I've ordered the
necessary card for my Mac and the modem router. The laptop which will be
connected to the network occasionally already has a card. Is there any other
hardware needed or do I have everything ready to go?

You will need an ethernet network card and cable to perform the initial
configuration of the router. Once it's been set up you can go complete
wireless.

Most routers come with a short cat5 cable, so as long as one of your
computers has an ethernet port you should be OK.

Sounds right. Do either the MAC or the laptop have a wired connection too?
I would recommend this for when you accidentally configure the wireless
router into a state where you can't connect to it wirelessly.

BTW, if you're using WPA-PSK, you might want to see my UPDATE e-mail about
the joys of getting WPA-PSK to work! And if you don't know what WPA-PSK is,
go and read about security and wireless networks ;-).

Finally, what sort of MAC do you have and what wireless card are you using?
My in-laws will be doing something similar soon and they're "MAC people".

Paul DS.

The PC has an ethernet port. I'll hae a look at your post and look at security
I know this is an issue. I have Aiport Extreme point and have ordered an
Aiport Extreme card - it's an eMac. I might come back for help! I think the
modem router comes with cable, IIRC. If it hasn't got an ethernet card I'm
sure I can get one easily and cheaply. Thanks.
