Wireless Networking between my Desktop and Laptop

Hi all. I don't know much about computers so I'm a little lost when it comes
to wireless stuff. Anyways, I've just bought a new Netgear DG834G and to my
understanding is a wireless, adsl firewall router. So to my understanding I'm
should be able to use it to connect to the internet with my pc and then
connect through a network with my laptop and be able to share files and also
the printer-wireless from my laptop. It seems pc is working fine but laptop
shows three LAN connections. Local Area connection 2 says its unplugged, 1394
Connection (connects with Net Adapter) connected, and the Wireless Network
Connection says its not connected and again that seems to be on a different
device to the other two. I've tried running the wireless zero program (or
somethign to that effect) and still I'm not able to see any wireless networks
available. Anyways, if someone can help me that would be fantastic.

Hi
1394 isFFirewire connection (ignore it).
The unplugged connection is probably your wired network connection that
currently is Not plugged because you are trying to use the Wireless (So
ignore it too).

Thank you both Jack and Jim for the answers. They've helped and now I'm able
to connect to the internet from both computers (desktop and laptop) but
cannot access either computers from each to share files and printer. Not only
that but because I don't know much about these things I got a little panicky
when I saw that I could see the next door neighbours wireless connection on
my wireless connection. I knew it was his because it had his name on it. And
two others but that was about it. Which made me think about my modem. Whether
someone was able to pick up mine and how I can secure my connection so that
only my laptop and desktop can use my modem and network. Can anyone help me
again on these please?

From the weakest to the strongest, Wireless security capacity is.
No Security
MAC
WEP
WPA-PSK
WPA-AES
WPA2
The documentation of your Wireless devices (Wireless Router, and Wireless
Computers Card) should state the type of security that is available with
your Wireless hardware.

All devices MUST be set to the same security level using the same pass
phrase.

Therefore the security must be set according what ever is the best possible
of one of the Wireless devices.
I.e. even if most of your system might be capable to be configured to the
max. with WPA2, but one device is only capable to be configured to max . of
WEP, to whole system must be configured to WEP.

If you need more good security and one device (like a Wireless card that can
do WEP only) is holding better security for the whole Network, replace the
device with a better one.
