Check the Win ME computer's TCP/IP settings by running Winipcfg from
the Start | Run box. Compare the settings to what the Win 98 computer
shows. They should be the same except for the IP address. The IP
address should be the same in the first 3 numbers and different in the
4th number.
If that's OK, try these tests on Win ME to find the problem:
1. Open a command prompt (Start | Run | Command) and enter these
lines. Each one should get four replies:
ping <default gateway address>
ping <DNS server address>
ping 216.239.39.100
ping
www.google.com
2. Enter these addresses in Internet Explorer. They should both take
you to the Google web page:
http://216.239.39.100
http://www.google.com
