Hi mates

I want to know if there is any problem to install a wireless network. I
consider to buy d-links w-less router di-524 and a w-less pci card dwl-g510
to run on a w98. Can you recommend them. I am new at this. Wiring is not an
option for me.Thanks in advance for all inputs. I want to let a neighbour
share my i-net connection. I only need a transferrate at 6 mbits and my
neighbour is 100 meters from me.

have a nice day

Tor

Hi

To install a Wireless card on Win98 the cards have to come with Win98
drivers.

Since Win98 has No native utility to support Wireless you need to install
the Wireless management utility that comes with the card too.

Wireless, Basic Configuration: http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html

Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html

As for sharing your connection with another household, it might be illegal
to do so.

In addition, 100Meters is too much for regular Entry Level Wireless devices.

Jack (MVP-Networking).

The Dlink website shows 2 versions of your PCI card. Version A has
drivers for Windows 98 but version B does not.

Now that Microsoft has withdrawn support for W98 it will become
more difficult to find devices that support it.
An alternative to a PCI card that you could consider is a USB adapter
like this one:

I use a 3com wireless PC card adapter in an old W98 laptop and it works
well, even supporting WPA security and I have used the previous version
of this USB adapter with W98 and XP without problems although the range
will probably be less than with a PCI card.
