Hi,

I have a NETGEAR 54Mb access point (WG602) and I am trying to access
it via my Dell D800. The dell is a Centrino so it has the ability to
do wireless communications via the motherboard(or however it works),
now here is my problem:

My other laptop uses a WG511 PC card to connect and that works fine,
my D800 connects through its own internal hardware. Now when I try to
connect to the D800 I have issues. Under my 'wireless network key'
connection settings I am trying to use a Shared network
authentication, with WEP data encryption, and I am supplying the
correct network key to it.

Now I have set this up and it appears in my prefered networks, and I
get a little popup to say there are wireless networks available, but
it will not connect. When I go back to look at my prefered network
the network authentication has reset itself to Open!! So I reset it
to Shared and try again, no connection, I go back to prefered networks
and its back to Open again!. This carries on for some time and
eventually the network doesn't reset to Open and I can connect! As I
am sure you can imagine this is very frustrating.

Oh, I am using Windows XP, with service pack 1a on. I have not
upgraded my firmware.

Any ideas on how to stop this option being reset to open?

Thanks in advance
Matthew

I have exactly the same problem. All non-Netgear equipment has this problem.
I have tried Symbol PCCARD, Intel PCCARD and Orinoco USB Gold. My Netgear
WG511 PCCARD works fine and my Netgear USB-adapter works fine. I have talked
to Netgear but they do not have any solution. I have the latest firmware for
WG602 (V1.5.67) and I think the problems begun when I installed it.

I had the same problem on a Belkin USB unit. Setting the SSID to ANY
is supposed to work. Once I figured out that I had to manually enter
the correct ssid, it started working.

Thanks, Ill try that! I have downgraded the firmware to version 1. which
solves the problem. But now my Netgear USB-adapter (MA101) is unable to
connect... According to Netgear they are releasing a new WG602 called WG602
v2 which will adress the issues. But that is not a software upgrade...

Regards

Oscar
