I have just installed the Netgear 824M on my main PC via ethernet, on my
second pc I have installed a wireless card and have sucessfully managed to
connect to the internet wirelessly from this machine. However, I just can't
seem to get the 2 PC's to see each other, even though they are both using
the 824M to connect to the net :/

I've tried everything I can think of and followed all the instructions in
the relevent manuals/. Can anyone help? I just want to set up a basic
homenetwork, 1 PC via ethernet, the other wireless. I've tried going through
the network setup wizard a dozen times

mike

What operating system are you using? I have an identical problem using
XPPro,
but I just buggered about until the laptop could see the shared drives on
the desktop.

Hi Mike,

Both PC's have to be on the same work group, have you enabled sharing of
your Hard drives so you can access all the Hard drives from either PC ?

Ok, is there a "networking for beginners" tutorial out there?
You know, "step 1, share the drives, step 2.... "
TIA

I have been going thro the same learning curve-

I managed to get the PC and laptops to 'see' each other and share files by
switching off the firewall within XP. As I have not yet had much success
with the firewall provided with the Netgear 824M I'm a little uneasy doing
this.

What I have not yet been successful with is sharing a printer which is
connected to the main PC (ie the one with direct link to DG824M)- any clues
to this would be appreciated

that was it, i found the XP firewall on one of the lan connections, and I
also switch off user passwords. It seems to work fine now!
