I’ve got a Netgear D834G and had the laptop from which I am writing
connected wirelesly and a desktop connected via cable. I moved the
desktop machine and used a Netgear WG111v2 wireless USB adapter
instead of cable for its net connection. The WG111 driver and icon in
the tray all tell me its conneced fine, as does the routers status
page when accesses from my other machine (including a ping), however
when running IE, IRC or Firefox on the desktop machine it just cant
find any web sites at all, including the router’s status page, my
antivirus software cant get its autoupdates either.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. The desktop machine is running
Windows ME (yes, I know....)

Thanks!

What does "ipconfig /all" show for Gateway and DNS settings showing of each
machine ?

What does "route print" show for each machine ?

Tehe WG111 driver and icon tell you that you are connected, but do
they tell you that you are connected to YOUR wireless router? You
maybe connecting to a neighbors.

As already suggested, you could do a Start / Run / cmd and then
ipconfig /all from both machines. However, if both you and a neighbor
are running default configurations, you would be on the same channel
and IP address range. Your machine may be getting confused by two
routers on the same channel with the same ip address.

Change your channel and SSID on the router from the default - so you
will know that you are connected to YOUR router.
