Wireless network connected but no "connection"?

My WLAN connection (to Tiscali broadband) shows the wireless is working
fine but when I try and connect to the web I get "cannot find server",
and can't download emails using Outlook either. If I switch to another
wireless network in the vicinity everything is fine again. This has
only been happening for a few hours this morning. Is this likely to be
just because Tiscali's server is temporarily down, or something more
serious??

Thanks
TC

Could be a problem at Tiscalli, or at the local exchange.

Tiscalli will be able to advise either way.

And a little later I was having a fun time trying to get my brother's
portable connected, via wireless, to my Tiscali line. Ethernet
connection to my desktop had been dead easy, but getting the TCP/IP to
work over the wireless link seemed completely crazy. And then suddenly
it started working.

And all the time I was able to connect to the internet from my desktop.

Now, how much this was to do with the router (a BT Voyager 2110), how
much with my brother's Toshiba, and how much with Tiscali, I don't know.
Maybe we should have sacrificed a differently-coloured goat.

Try setting the 'gateway' in TCP/IP properties to the IP no of the router -
usually 192.168.1.1
Failing that set all the TCP/IP parameters as static and disable DHCP.

Martin
